Hastings' Alexandra Park - the chalybeate spring is still there - the water has a very high iron content and tastes vile - the Victorians though it must do some good. Also known as Dr McCabe's Well? |

Because it's not a photograph it's not always easy to align the picture with reality - This view of Alexandra park appears to be from St Helens Road, not Park Road (now Lower Park Road) it looks like Saxonhurst in the upper centre above the tennis lawns with the spire of St Andrews Church (now demolished) to the right. Lower Park Road hasn't yet been built (road behind the railings on the right) and there does not appear to be a boating lake. Hastings Castle is top right. | |||

'Medals' struck for the opening of Alexandra Park and the Convalescent Home on West Hill St.Leonards. These were struck in pewter and plated to appear as bronze (far left), gold (left) silver and ?, the right hand medallions may have been from a different maker. Any further information on who made / issued these and who received them and why would be gratefully received. Shown slightly larger than life-size. (Ion Castro Collection) |
