2.30 pm Official Old Town Walk Meet at top station of West Hill Lift (You will find the West Hill Lift at the western end of George Street. Take a trip up in the lift to the top station or walk up via Cobourg Place and over the hill). The Official Old Hastings Preservation Society walk, with experienced guides is downhill and takes approx 2 hours, with visits to the many historical and picturesque sites of Hastings Old Town. 12 noon - 2 pm Exhibition of Amateur Boxing by members of West Hill Youth Club Priory Meadow Shopping Centre Members will be demonstrating their skills in exhibition bouts and training methods in a Boxing Ring. West Hill Boys Club was founded in 1938 by members of a successful local football club who wanted to expand their activities. The original club was based in Emmanuel Church Hall, but moved to larger premises in Whitefriars Road in the early 1940's and has been there ever since. A boxing section was started in 1948 and began a tradition that has seen West Hill Youth Club become one of the leading boxing clubs in the UK. The coaches devote a huge amount of time and effort to training the boxers and it is all done on a voluntary, unpaid basis. 7.15 pm Smugglers Walk - Walking Tour Meet at Shipwreck Heritage Centre, Rock-a-Nore, Old Town An atmospheric and entertaining guided walk of approx 1 hour 20 minutes around Hastings Old Town and Fishing Quarter, recounting true stories of smuggling in Hastings in the 1 8th and 19th Centuries and the involvement of local people. Conducted by Clive Richardson, British Tourist Authority Blue Badge Guide. 7.15pm Lighting of Hastings Beacon Top of East Hill, Old Town. Hastings Runners carry a lit torch from Pelham Place to the East Hill to start the procession
7.30 pm Torchlight Procession by Hastings Borough Bonfire Society The traditional Sussex Bonfire procession with representatives of Bonfire Societies from across Sussex marking the 401st anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot and 940th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. Commences from The Stade, up All Saints Street and down the High Street to the promenade, turning right at Albert Road, into Queens Road turning at the junction of South Terrace back to the Town Hall to be joined by the Mayor, other officials and Town Criers. At the Town Hall the Town Crier reads the declaration of the America Ground, the procession continues cross the America Ground to the promenade and finishes at Pelham Place car park.
Bonfire on the beach with our famous effigies (who or what will the secret effigy be this year?). Please keep outside the barriers and do not pick up discarded torches or bring your own fireworks. Keep your children with you and pets indoors.
9 pm Fireworks and Bonfire by Hastings Borough Bonfire Society and Renegade Pyrotechnics One of the UK's largest, loudest and most extraordinary fireworks displays and one of the UK's largest Bonfires. Collections for local charities, please give generously, all money collected goes to charity.
