Flag Raising Ceremony

The combined band of the pre-service units of the town march from the Italian Way, Castle Street to join others and create a colourful scene of Standard Bearers, Services and Youth Groups at the Town Hall. The Town Crier will introduce the Mayor who will formally open the week of festivities and the flag will be raised. The band will play.The 51st National Town Criers Championship

This visually stunning event starts from The Stade and continues up All Saints Street, down the High Street to the Promenade, turning right at Albert Road to Queens Road, turning at the junction of South Terrace back past the Town Hall to be joined by The Mayor, other officials and Town Criers.
It continues down Robertson Street to the America Ground Memorial, then back along the Promenade to Pelham Car Park to light the bonfire.Torchlight Procession, Fireworks and Bonfire created by Hastings Borough Bonfire Society and Renegade Pyrotechnics together with invited guests from other Sussex Bonfire Societies.

The raising of William the Conqueror’s flag in the grounds of the first castle he built on English soil. This compelling ceremony sees the pre-service units form up on the West Hill and march to the Castle.
In the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress, the Gonfalon is hoisted with a fanfare from the pipers followed by a brief Drumhead service conducted by the Revd. Philip Coekin.
Entertainment follows from the Police Cadets Gymnastic Display Team, Sussex Brass and Pre-service Unit Band followed by the lowering of the Union Flag to the Military Sounds of Sunset.A Dreamlike State
