OLD TOWN CARNIVAL WEEK OPENING CEREMONY PROCESSION
Winkle Island
Join the procession which starts at Winkle Island at 10.30am, walks up the High Street (with a stop at the Stables Theatre in the Bourne to view the exhibition) and down All Saints Street, judging the Best Dressed Window on the way, ending at Winkle Island for the Opening Ceremony at 12 noon. Procession, headed by the Mayor of Hastings, includes Hastings Corps of Drums, Hastings Coastal Twirlers, Carnival Queen and Princesses, Belly Dancers etc.

To be judged by the Mayor of Hastings, the Carnival Queen and Princesses. First prize is an engraved glass frame with a photo of the winning window. Winner announced by Old Town Crier during the Opening Ceremony at 12noon on Winkle Island.

Winkle Island
Old Town Carnival Week officially opened by the Mayor of Hastings on Winkle Island, with Hastings Town Crier and the procession entourage in attendance. After the Opening Ceremony the Mayor and party will proceed to the Fishermen's Museum to open the exhibition '150 Years of the Fishermen's Church'.

Meet outside Shipwreck Heritage Centre, Rock a Nore.
An atmospheric and entertaining guided walk of approx 1hr 15mins around the Old Town and Fishing Quarter, recounting the true stories of smuggling in Hastings in the 18th and early 19th centuries and the involvement of local people. Conducted by Clive Richardson, British Tourist Authority Blue Badge Guide. Tickets in advance from Shipwreck Heritage Centre, Rock a Nore at £3 adult, £2 child under 14 or from the guide on the walk at £3.50 adult, £2.50 child under 14. Meet at the Chessboard, George Street.
Learn about the fascinating history of the Old Town and hear some terrifying tales! Includes a quiz, so bring a pen! Suitable for all the family. Walk takes approximately 75 minutes and involves climbing steps and hilly streets in the Old Town. All children must be accompanied by an adult. £3.50 adults, £2.50 concessions. Donations to Old Hastings Preservation Society.

Winner is the quickest to ride up the steepest hill in the Old Town. Riders must keep bums on saddles to stop 10 shilling note blowing away! Winner will be presented with the Jimmy Read Memorial Trophy. Organised by High Street Traders.

“SNIFF THE DIFFERENCE” Wine and Seafood Event
Rock a Nore Gallery, 23 Rock a Nore, Old Town, Hastings

Sniff and Spit – a local wine tasting company – are hosting their first ever Hastings Seafood and Wine event. Local Old Town fisheries – Rock-a-Nore Fisheries, Johnny Swann and Dave’s Eastern Fish Shop are supporting the occasion by supplying seafood to accompany the wines. Canapés are by chef Christian, from Soupcon Restaurant, High Street. The theme is “sniff the difference” so why not test your nose and palate on the night. Conducted by Clive Richardson, British Tourist Authority Blue Badge Guide. Learn about the fascinating history of the Old Town and hear some terrifying tales! Includes a quiz, so bring a pen! Suitable for all the family. Walk takes approximately 75 minutes and involves climbing steps and hilly streets in the Old Town. All children must be accompanied by an adult. £3.50 adults, £2.50 concessions. Hastings UK - Hastings Sierra Leone
The Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link and Hastings Village Association have arranged an outing for 200 members of the African community in London to come down for the event and take part in the procession. Before and after the procession passing along the seafront , a great open air music festival laid on by the Friendship Link will bring party time to Pelham Place. Well known local bands are performing free of charge and world renowned Nana Tsiboe and his band will round the evening off with great African drum rhythms and pulsating music as hundreds of people from both continents to dance together until the fireworks start at 10pm. There is a need for marshals and first aiders to be present during the event. Please contact Robin Gray (781130) if you can help. Money collected at this event will go to continuing the reconstruction work and community programmes in Hastings Sierra Leone.
