9th and 10th June 2000, the chairman of the Hastings Trolleybus Restoration Group and his son made an unofficial visit to the Trolleybus Fortnight at the Black Country Living Museum at Dudley. Mightily impressed by what we saw and the people we met we thought we'd share the experience with a wider audience.
Main reason for the visit was to see this 1931 Guy Bodied Guy BTX, Wolverhampton
No78, recovered from a field near Dublin about a dozen years ago restoration is imminent
( This magnificent vehicle uses the same chassis as our own 1928 "Happy
Harold" and 1929 Ransomes bodied single decker)
Happy Harold isn't the only open-top double deck trolleybus in the world,
Bournemouth 202, a 1935 Sunbeam had its top cut off in 1958
A few of the trolleybuses that congregated at Dudley for the trolleybus
fortnight
This Derby Corporation Sunbeam. No 237, looked as if it had just come down from
the Commercial Motor Show!
Maidstone 56, A Sunbeam, Hastings 34 ended up in these colours when it was
transferred to Maidstone in 1959
Wolverhampton 433, a Sunbeam
Walsall 862 with Willowbrook Coachwork
Dudley & Stourbridge No 34 from 1920. 3'6" gauge, just like Hastings
The last Trolleybus to be built in Britain, this vehicle also has a diesel
engine
