The Battle Field at Culloden from the Fraser Position
On the right hand side of this picture, distant willow and birch trees can be seen. These mark the hollow (later known as the Well of the Dead) where the worst fighting and most deaths occured. The great Chinese General Sun Tzu observes that " a battle flows like water" and so it was at Culloden. To the right and out of view of the photo was the long enclosure wall, and the old turf dyke, from behind which the Jacobite forces came under constant fire from the Argyll Militia.
