Hastings Old Town Pirates Day 2010
Hastings Old Town Pirates Day 2010
Join in and become a pirate - shiver me timbers pirate gear can be had here, now - from the pirate cave at the bottom of High Street. opened 24th July in readiness! - and help to support the Old Town Traders' charities.

Friday, 6th August.
Pirates are planning to flock to Hastings' Pirate Day to join the bid to gather the most pirates ever in one place on

Thursday, 5th August
4-7pm: FREE
Children's Pirate workshops in Priory Meadow-getting ready!

WORLD RECORD CRITERIA-You must wear ALL of the following:
  • Pirate hat or bandana
  • Eye patch
  • Striped or White T-shirt or shirt
  • Pantaloons , tatty trousers or rolled up trousers or a Pirate style skirt
  • An accessory such as a Sword, Musket, Pirate flag or Parrot!

The man behind the record attempt, Roger Crouch (who has been helped by the High Street Traders, Old Town Traders and Priory Meadow), is confident the town can claim the coveted crown of pirate capital of the world, but he says he is taking nothing for granted, especially as a town in South Carolina in the US looks to have taken the title in the last couple of weeks. "The previous holder was Portland with 1,670 pirates but it looks likely that will be bettered by the gathering in Valeo. Early reports suggest they had as many as 2,300 pirates. I think we can top that. Hastings seems to have taken the idea to its heart and everywhere I go people are asking about Pirate Day.We need as many people to come down and take part as possible. It will be a real family friendly event, so children, adults, mums and dads and grandparents can all take part. The only condition is you have to dress like a pirate. It should be a great day and we have officials from Guinness coming down to adjudicate so we will know straight away if we have got the record. Pirate Day will put Hastings on the map."
